UKWSL/Marston’s PLC shortlisted for 3 categories National Recycling Awards 2019.

We are delighted to announce that our entries for the categories below have all been shortlisted for this years’ awards:

Partnership Excellence

The Marston’s and UKWSL partnership was founded on a mutual commitment to fully engage with innovation and continuous improvement, sustainably transforming total waste management. This hands-on partnership goes beyond the transactional relationship most waste providers have with their clients, leading to our success in achieving Marston’s 2020 environmental targets by mid-2018. In addition, UKWSL have exceeded Marston’s two-year cost saving target in just over a year.

Recycling Excellence (Large Organisation)

Marston’s have partnered with UKWSL, one of the UK’s fastest growing waste and resource management companies. Working in collaboration, Marston’s and UKWSL have gone from 60% recycling and 40% landfill to circa 75% of all waste being recycled.  24% is sent for recovery with less than 1% going to landfill.  By being the first of the Top 5 pub chains to reach “Zero Waste to Landfill”, Marston’s hopes to pave the way for other businesses to start rethinking their own waste management. Our joint commitment to change focuses on the need to utilise the waste hierarchy and create circular economy solutions.

Food Waste Initiative

Marston’s was committed to re-evaluating their whole supply chain and transforming the culture and attitude of employees.  Commitment, planning, delivery, engagement and education have been the keys to their success.  Change isn’t about short- term gain, it’s about creating a cultural change that will be felt within all levels of the business for many years to come. Changes implemented become normal, the standards we expect have moved forwards.

The panel of judges will assess all the entries over the coming month and decide upon a winner based on the strength of submission and how close it was to meeting the criteria.
