Senior Credit Controller Role Expectation



UKWSL has a large and varied customer base, the successful candidate will be expected to establish a team that can adapt credit control processes to cope with our customers individual requirements.

You will have demonstratable experience that shows you have dealt with customers of different sizes, spend, and with bespoke requirements.

Experience dealing with the credit control legal processes would be an advantage.

What we expect you to do

This is to establish a stand-alone credit control function within the business, you will be required to:

Review and revise the existing credit control processes to ensure the maximum cash collection for the business

Manage the recovery of aged debt, which may involve account reconciliation, invoice query resolution, liaising with internal departments and negotiating re-payment plans where appropriate.

Review and introduce processes that control credit risks to the business

Work autonomously to ensure the timely collection of all debts

Build and maintain strong relationships with our network of customers across the UK through

effective communication skills both written and verbal.



This role will have management responsibility, with the day to day management of 2 credit controllers.

Establish a monthly timetable to cover all collections from the customer base with deadlines for statements, reminder letters and a full and clear on-stop process.

Conduct monthly one to ones and weekly team meetings to support team members & provide training to ensure excellent customer service is delivered at all times.

Prepare an informative & useful departmental monthly report by the set deadline for management meetings.

Represent your department in internal and external meetings, showing an understanding of the needs of the customer, your department and the business as a whole.

Monitor the success of the department, through departmental KPI’s, work with your team to ensure that they deliver outstanding customer service, improve team performance, and use them to implement strategies to improve the effectiveness of the team performance.


The skills you will need are:

Debt collection – you will have a proven track record of effective debt collection

Decision making – you will be able to independently make difficult and strong decisions and be able to implement them quickly and effectively

Highly effective communication skills – you must listen well, ask good questions, build superb relationships, write clearly and talk with confidence

Efficient organisation – you will need to work quickly and accurately with a strong eye for detail, you will need to prioritise and multi-task your workload so that your customers always get a good high-quality service

Efficient time management – to be able to manage your own workload through effective time management

Confident and outstanding IT skills – you will be using Microsoft Office and Accounting Packages, you need to have a good level of competence, being able to operate with confidence and without supervision. You must be able to present information quickly and clearly having the ability to use all the basic functions well

Build a team – to be able to create motivate and empower a team to achieve the team goals

Great Customer Care – to be creative, focused and close to your customers driving excellence through customer care.

Make Change – the ability to be analytical and to deliver change through your analysis

Setting expectations – you will have the ability to set and manage expectations of both internal and external partners

Understanding the business – be able to learn, interpret and understand the business, the industry and the changing needs


You will have:

Been a key player in effective team

Achieved GCSE Grade C in Math’s, English & IT



You may also have:

AAT Level 3 or above or be working towards this qualification

Experience working in the waste industry
